Bananas grown in Jamaica were the first to be marketed in the USA in the early 1800s. After a huge import success, the Boston Fruit Company was created and became the largest private fleet of steamships in the world. By the late 1930's Bananas represented 50% of the value of Jamaica’s total exports.
